Meet Irani Andreati
Our President, Mr. Irani Andreati founded the Cultural Association of Brazilian Arts (CAOBA) with a single goal in mind. The development and strengthening of today’s disadvantaged youth. A native of Brazil, Mr. Andreati watched as innumerable children and teens, including many of his own peers, were ravaged by negative influences of society such as drug use, alcoholism, violence, and the eventual road to crime and prison.Mr. Andreati was also privileged to witness numerous childhood friends and neighborhood youth overcome their own vulnerability and weakness to immune themselves against the temptation to give into these negative influences. The key to this immunity was the intense training in the Brazilian martial art form, Capoeira.
Capoeira, described by many as the Brazilian art of both fight and dance develops the physical and mental discipline and confidence leading to the needed moral strength to overcome incessant negative temptations. Mr. Andreati took full advantage of this Brazilian art form and was given the title of Capoeira Master by the venerable Mestre Cesar Di Alabama.
Mr. Andreati, known in capoeira circles throughout the world as Mestre Bayano, has been a practitioner of capoeira for over 25 years. He has taught and performed across the United States, and overseas including Portugal, Spain, Italy, and France. He has been featured on several television stations including ABC, Fox, and the major Spanish-language stations Univision, and Telemundo.
Apart from his community youth programs, Mr. Andreati also found time to pursue a career in professional soccer in Brazil, later playing for a short time in Mexico and the US. After receiving his Master’s Degree in Physical Education, he was Head Trainer for several clubs in the Tri-State area. He conducted workshops and seminars at nearly every Bally’s Fitness center, and others, in this area. Mr. Andreati also runs several Capoeira academies throughout Northern New Jersey. His academies boast numerous success stories of young people with social or health problems who overcame their struggles, even dramatically improving their conditions. Other young people who have not necessarily faced great adversity have none the less gained more confidence and attained greater levels of fitness through their training.
